SITI Company is an ensemble-based theater company whose three ongoing components are the creation of new works for the stage, the training of theater artists, and a commitment to artistic international exchange.  Founded by Anne Bogart and Tadashi Suzuki, SITI Company is currently celebrating its 25th Anniversary.

Deputy Director

JOB TYPE:  Full-Time
SALARY:  $60,000-$68,000 with benefits

SITI Company seeks an experienced and dynamic individual to work closely with the Executive Director as she leads the Company through a transformative moment in its 25-year history. Core responsibilities include: expanding the portfolio of individual and institutional support for this $1.4M organization; Board recruitment and stewardship; managing external communications; and serving as a partner to the Executive Director in managing the daily operations of the Company.  In collaboration with the Executive Director, the Deputy Director plans, implements, manages and evaluates the overall fundraising program including individual and institutional contributions, as well as cultivation events such as our annual benefit. The Deputy Director will also be charged with maintaining external communication strategies, furthering the organization’s strategic planning efforts, and working with other stakeholders to propel the organization forward as we envision our work in the next 25 years.



  • Create and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy that actively expands the individual donor base; cultivates major donor support; grows institutional giving; and attracts corporate support.
  • Responsible for grant proposals and reporting; individual solicitations; prospect research; database and record management; special event planning; and stewarding good funder relationships.

Board Relations

  • Create and execute a plan to develop and engage an active and diverse Board of directors and work with the Board on solicitation training.
  • Work with Executive Director to identify and cultivate new Board members as well as prepare and plan six annual Board meetings and an annual retreat.

External Communication

  • Liaise with PR representative and provide PR support for all activities.
  • Maintain website, social media and other online communities where SITI has a presence with the goal of greater engagement and oversee decentralization of content creation.
  • Oversee design of SITI’s print fundraising, marketing, and advertising materials as well as work with presenting partners to distribute and approve their programs and marketing materials for touring engagements.

Strategic Planning

  • Work with Board Committee Chairs, Board Chair, and Executive Director to track and implement aspects of the strategic plan.
  • Collaborate with ED on revenue and expense projections as they relate to exploration of future business models and programs.
  • Keep the strategic plan always in sight while managing day-to-day activities so that it continues to move forward, while working with the entire staff to clearly communicate actions underway and progress to Board and Company members. 


The successful candidate will have the ability to work independently, take initiative, track multiple projects, prepare professional quality documents, be a vocal advocate and ambassador for SITI, and advance the Company’s mission through administrative support and execution of fundraising goals.  Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, the ability to work with imagination and determination facing obstacles, impeccable written and verbal communication skills, and computer literacy are essential.


  • Previous administrative experience within a theater company, dance company or similar not-for-profit performing arts organization.
  • Proven fundraising skills, with 3-6 years of successful experience meeting, or exceeding, contributed revenue goals.
  • Knowledge of the New York City funding and philanthropic environment.
  • Strong leadership skills, a tendency towards teambuilding, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to encourage, engage and energize Board and staff members, artists, volunteers, donors, and audiences.
  • A genuine interest in SITI’s artistic work.
  • Energy, stamina, flexibility, sense of humor and the willingness and interest to engage in the life and activities of SITI Company.


  • Advanced degree in Theater Management or Arts Management.
  • Experience in budget management.
  • Experience with fundraising databases such as Raiser’s Edge, Tessitura, or Salesforce.
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite and InDesign.

SITI Company Launches Management Incubator 

SITI Company was pleased to announce this February the launch of a new program aimed at offering training and employment for the next generation of theatrical producers and managers: SITI’s Management Incubator. This program seeks dynamic creative entrepreneurs of color and offers individualized mentorship, on the job training, and networking opportunities.  Ideal candidates are those looking to augment their own creative practice and projects while simultaneously gaining a foothold in the New York City performing arts industry and becoming immersed in the life of a vibrant 25-year old theatrical ensemble.

SITI Executive Director, Michelle Preston, and Managing Director of New Georges, Jaynie Saunders Tiller, are passionate about cultivating and supporting an inclusive and diverse cohort of future leaders in the performing arts. This program came out of their joint efforts and commitment to creating space and garnering ongoing support for programs such as this one. These positions are supported in 2018 by the New York State Regional Economic Development Council (REDC).
