SITI Company is an ensemble-based theater company whose three ongoing components are the creation of new works for the stage, the training of theater artists, and a commitment to artistic international exchange.  Founded by Anne Bogart and Tadashi Suzuki, SITI Company recently celebrated its 20th anniversary.  Following a comprehensive and transformative strategic planning process SITI Company is in an exciting period of growth that is reflected in its increased presence and partnerships in New York City, its newly launched SITI Conservatory, its vigorous touring schedule, and its commitment to forge cross-disciplinary creative relationships. Today SITI Company is a $1.2 million, financially stable organization with an active and growing Board of Directors, a professional staff of four, and an established Ensemble of acclaimed and accomplished artists who have been creating theater together for over two decades.



SITI Company Seeks Education Manager

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The SITI Company has championed ensemble practice and collaborative problem solving in both the studio and office since its inception. SITI Company seeks an experienced and dynamic individual responsible to work in partnership with Company members to cultivate a robust slate of artist training programs and innovate new approaches to recruitment and education marketing. The candidate will have a mandate to expand the community of artists training with SITI in NYC and in particular to recruit the fourth SITI Conservatory cohort.  Reporting directly to the Executive Director and SITI Co-Artistic Director Ellen Lauren, the Education Manager works to design and execute a comprehensive slate of education programming totaling approximately a third of SITI’s $1.2M annual income.

 

DUTIES

  • Recruit artists to train in SITI’s education programs including weekend master classes, 2-7 week NYC training sessions, a biennial 8-month Conservatory, and an annual 4-week summer intensive in Saratoga Springs, NY.
  • Process applications, acceptances and enrollments as well as maintain student records and tuition payments to reconcile with bookkeeper. 
  • Manage the J-1 visa application process with SITI’s third party sponsors, as well as oversee any extensions, for international artists training in the Conservatory.
  • Work with Development & Communications Manager to develop marketing materials and outreach strategies to reach prospective students.
  • Serve as the main contact for current and prospective artists training with SITI.
  • Work to further alumni engagement efforts including designing networking events and gatherings inside and outside of New York City.



QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will have the ability to work independently, take initiative, track multiple projects, prepare professional quality documents, be a vocal advocate and ambassador for the work of SITI, and advance the Company’s mission through execution of education enrollment goals.  Strong organizational skills, the ability to work with imagination and determination facing obstacles, written and verbal communication skills, and computer literacy are essential. Candidates should expect to work some nights and weekends as well as spend 4 weeks in June with SITI at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degree in Theater Management or Arts Management preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the Suzuki & Viewpoints Methods of Actor Training is preferred.
  • Administrative experience within a theater company or similar not-for-profit performing arts organization.
  • Strong leadership, teambuilding, excellent interpersonal and communication skills. A clear ability to encourage, engage and energize artists, alumni, company members and faculty.
  • Experience in recruitment.
  • Ability to speak a second language, especially Spanish, is a plus.
  • An appreciation for experimental theater and genuine interest in the Company’s work.
  • Energy, stamina, flexibility, sense of humor and the willingness and interest to engage in the life and activities of SITI Company.
