What impact does the media have on our perceptions, psyches and personal lives?
Originally created in 1993, this compelling piece is perhaps more resonant now than ever. The Medium is based on the writings and theories of media prophet Marshall McLuhan, who died in 1980, and who questioned the positive impact that emerging technologies would have on our lives. For their final hurrah prior to transitioning from a producing organization to a more open artist collective, SITI Company will revive The Medium which has not been seen on stage since 1997. True to the company’s style, the piece combines myriad influences: 1920s American Expressionism, modern dance, Japanese avant-garde theater and others with the purpose of reflecting McLuhan’s mixed predictions.
Generously supported by the Virginia and James Giddens 1959 Fund and the Howard Gilman 1944 Directorship at the Hopkins Center for the Arts Fund
