SITI Conservatory Spotlight: Gabriela Barretto

Dec 09, 2016

Throughout the 2016-2017 Conservatory year, SITI is spotlighting the work of each of our Conservatory members. Today, we spotlight Gabi Barretto.

What is your name, and where in the world are you from?

My name is Gabriela Barretto and I am from São Paulo, Brasil.

What kind of work do you make?

I am an actress.

What is the most important thing you have learned in the Conservatory so far?

Among so many other things, I have learned to breathe into the uncomfortable and that through that I am able to find my voice as a performer.

What in your creative life are you proudest of?

I think I am proud of taking risks as an actress. Both on stage and also the process of moving to another country to continue studying theatre. I am trying to both adapt to a different culture and to bring my own to the ensemble that I am working with.

Tell us about a piece of art that has recently inspired you.

A while ago I watched Medea at La Mama, by an italian theatre group called The Pathological Theatre. They had actors and people with schizophrenia, manic depression and other different kinds of realities on stage. It was so alive and beautiful to watch.
